Update on Baby Boy Macnab - 28 weeks

I had a 28 week dr. appointment yesterday which included an ultrasound, blood test, glucose test, etc.

I got to see baby boy Macnab. The sonogram tech was doing all the measurements and said, 'oh, baby is 4 pounds.' This was a bit of a startling fact, given that the average weight at 28 weeks is 2.25 pounds. So, this boy is nearly double the average for this stage, and weighing about 4 or so weeks ahead. Now, it could be that he just hit a growth spurt early and it will even out, or it could be a sign of what is to come...a huge baby! Good thing I'm having a c-section and don't have to really worry about this!

With this whole pregnancy I have told the dr. and nurse not to tell me my weight unless it is a problem or cause for concern. And so far the only comment I have heard from my ob on this topic is 'you are all baby,' which is a really nice, positive thing to hear when you are 7 months pregnant. Anyways, personally I feel great about how I look at this stage. You wouldn't know I have a giant in there, at least for now.

Ruby swings

It has been so hot for months. The only time of day Ruby can enjoy her swingset is first thing in the morning (around 8 am) or end of day (at 8 pm)!

However last week a storm was rolling in and the temps dropped to around 80 (from 110) and it was overcast and breezy. We took the opportunity to play on the swingset and SWING!!!

Here's a picture of Ruby totally happy on her swings.

Date night extravaganza

Recently Alex and I had two date nights in one weekend!

One night our friends Wayne and Julie watched Ruby so that Alex and I could go to a thai cooking class. We learned how to make coconut/mushroom/chicken/lemongrass soup, red beef thai curry, pad thai, and sticky coconut rice with mango. It was so much fun and I think we can try to do it at home!

The following night my friend Katie and I did a date night swap. She watched Ruby and another weekend I will watch her daughter so she and her husband can enjoy a date night. We went to Texas de Brazil and enjoyed some delicious steak and yummy salad bar!

I want to enjoy as many girls nights out and date nights as I can over the next two months!

Ruby hair update - 27 months

Ruby's hair seems to be growing quite a bit in the back, but is slow growing in the front. One day she will have enough for pigtails...one day.

Playgroup baby shower

There are 10 girls in one of our playgroups that are pregnant with second babies. Everyone has taken turns hosting the other expecting ladies' baby showers. This last week Danielle hosted a shower for Andrea and me since we are due around the same time. It was a fun gathering and I received some nice gifts for baby boy.

Ruby playing in daddy's office

Ruby and I go visit daddy in his office each day. We're so glad he works from home so we can see him a lot!

Here's sweet Ruby climbing on the windowsill.

Rare outing to the park

One morning Ruby and I were out and about early and since the temperature was just barely 90 at 9 am, I decided we should go to the park!

It was super hot and the equipment was already getting hot to the touch, but Ruby was thrilled that we got to go to a park we hadn't been to since early Spring. I know she misses the swings and slide and just being able to climb on stuff.

I have had just about enough of these 100 degree temps. The other day my car thermometer read 117. I can't wait for fall and being able to be outdoors more.

Trip to the aquarium

When Alex took a day off we also went to a new aquarium that opened up recently. Ruby still LOVES fish so it was neat for both of us to see her face light up with excitement.

Gymnastics with daddy

Alex took the day off of work so we could have a fun day with Ruby.

He came with us to Ruby's last gymnastics class.

He got to swing like a monkey with her...

And put her up on the super high bar...

And see how fast she can run and jump over one of the obstacles.

He got to help her on the balance beam...

and see how well she can crawl like a bear.

Spray park fun

Ruby and I met some friends at our local spray park. Ruby loves it!

She can now shoot the waterguns and enjoys running back and forth to all the different spraying features.

New shoes

Ruby is outgrowing all her summer shoes so we went to get some new ones. She is now wearing a size 7-7.5.

She is at the stage where she enjoys trying to put on her shoes herself. Even though a lot of times they end up on the wrong feet, she is getting better and enjoying that she can do something 'all by self.' (One day I discovered that she had gone into her closet during her naptime, dumped out all her shoes and found the hot pink crocs, put them on the correct feet, and then fell back asleep in her crib with the shoes on. Too cute).

So, shoe trying-on is somewhat fun for her, thank goodness.

We picked out two pairs...some neutral tan tennis shoes (that help her run super fast as I say)and some hot pink sequin shoes (pretty sparkle ones as we say).

Jumphouse

Ruby and I met our playgroup friends at a local indoor bouncehouse. This place had 20 or so different slides and jumping things and Ruby loved it! She is good about going up in the tall slides herself, alongside the big kids.

Blankets and Kitties

Ruby used to be really attached jsut to her special Kitty.

But now she is attached to her TWO bedtime blankets (really intended that she use one so I could easily rotate them out) AND TWO baby kitties, along with big kitty. We have to have ALL of them downstairs when we are down, and ALL of them upstairs when we are up. She has tried to bring them ALL in the car, but I tell her they need to stay home and take a nap. She loves me to make a picnic (the two blankets spread out on the floor) so she can roll all over and cuddle her kitties.

Playdates with friends

Ruby has been spending lots of time with her playgroup buddies. Each morning I tell her what we're going to do and she gets so excited when I see we're going to see friends.

She is at a neat age where they imitate each other in cute ways and get each other all riled up.

She likes to hold hands and is really good at the receiving end of hugs and kisses.

She loves being outside, although the 100+ temps have made this tough!

Recently we hosted a pancake playdate at our house. All the kiddos loved it!
