Mommy and Ruby

Here are a few more of my favorite photos of Ruby and me from the last 2 weeks.

I still can't believe Ruby was in my belly!

Here are two pics of me about a week or two before Ruby was born...and a picture of Ruby curled up in her favorite froggie position!

Ruby - 2 weeks old

Ruby is now 2 weeks old! Here are a couple of pics of her with her eyes open (a rare sight!)

Daddy and Ruby

Here are a few cute pics of Ruby and her daddy.

Ruby's Beautiful Features

We love to just watch Ruby and study all her beautiful features...Here are a few closeups of her hands, lips, feet and eyes.

First Macnab Family Portrait Session

Against all odds we managed a (very brief) portrait session with Ruby. Probably not the best idea to wake a sleeping baby, dress her in a stiff frock, hold her in awkward positions and hope for a still pose...but here are the results!

Visit to the Park - Portraits

On a sunny afternoon, we strolled to the park around the corner and took a few photos of Ruby. She liked being in the warm sunshine!

Video of Ruby stretching and waking up

It is rare that Ruby is awake and alert with her eyes open. But, we managed to catch a short video of her stretching her legs and just being cute as a button.

Our first outing to the pub

On a bright sunny afternoon we strolled through the neighborhood park (Coronation Gardens) and went to the Earl Spencer pub around the corner. We met up with Lesley, Neil, and their daughter Holly (born 2 days before Ruby) as well as Marie, Markus and their son Oliver (born about a month before Ruby). Us ladies enjoyed orange juice, while the guys had pints. Luckily we timed Ruby's feed so that she slept through the whole experience!

Ruby discovering her thumb

Ruby has very expressive hands...always slipping them out of her swaddle blankets and moving them around her face. One day she discovered her thumb and began to suck it. It was so cute...although a really awkward way to do it!

A few of our favorite photos of Ruby - week one

We have taken so many pictures of Ruby over the last week or so. There are just so many firsts, cute faces, and nice cuddles with mom and dad. Here are a few of our favourites.

Grannie Lynn has been soooo helpful!

My mother arrived the day after Ruby was born and will be staying with us for about a month. It is so neat that she is able to be a part of Ruby's first weeks. She has really helped us to learn the ropes! Here are the two of us giving Ruby her first bath at home. (Oh-and officially she wishes to be called Grannie Lynn...with an 'ie').

Our first outing with Ruby

I'm still recovering from the c-section, but we were able to make it up the street to our local Thai restaurant. Ruby slept the whole time and continued to sleep when we got back home.

Our first visitors

Our friends Marie and Markus, and their 4 week old baby, Oliver came to visit us. We ordered Ginos pizza and enjoyed a nice lunctime visit.

May 13th - Ruby's Birthday

Because of the positioning of my placenta, I had to deliver Ruby via c-section. So, on the morning of May 13th, we took a taxi to Kingston hospital. I was the second section of the day. Other than the local anesthetic, I wasn't in any pain at all. They used a spinal anesthetic (similar to an epidural) and I just felt warm and numb, like I was wrapped in blankets. The operation was very short (roughly 45 minutes total). It was a very calm and controlled experience!

Ruby was born at 11:05 am, weighing 8 pounds and measuring 20 inches. They let us hold her (awkwardly since I had a curtain up around me) and then Alex and I got a proper cuddle once we moved into the recovery area.

She is absolutely beautiful. The more and more we looked at her, we noticed her features...She has a birthmark on the back of her head (in the same spot that Daddy Alex has), she has a cowlick on her front hairline (in the same spot that mommy Laura has), she has cute pouty lips, long delicate fingers, and rosy cheeks.

The whole day was so surreal. I went in with a huge belly and ended the day with a daughter!
