Ruby's hair at 16 months

Ruby is the baldest 16 month old I know.

However, just last week I discovered she has enough wisps of hair to hold a very small hairbow.





And, here is Ruby's hair in the sunlight...will she be a redhead or a strawberry blonde perhaps?

Ruby has really shown an interest in utensils. Here she is in action with a spoon.

Ruby is 16 months old now

Ruby is now 16 months old and is really becoming her own little person now.

She can say lots of random words…probably the most significant of which is ‘NO!’ She is still learning the meaning of this word and sometimes says it for no particular reason. Other recent vocabulary additions include apple, tutu, truck, and owl. She knows how to make monkey and sheep sounds. When she hears a train she says choo choo. (Here’s what she was saying last month: Mama, Dadda, duck, (ba)nana, nigh(t) nigh(t), ball, book, bird, balloon, blueberry (said as 'buh buh' excitedly), belly button (sounds like buh buh buh as she points to her own and mine), bye-bye, baby, bow, wheel, (f)ish, sh(oe), peek (a) boo, meow, moo and ee-ii-ee-ii-o. Strange what they learn to say first!

She can point to her head, eyes, mouth, nose and ears when asked. And also is fascinated with bellybuttons.

She just recently learned how to use a fork (well, sort of).

She tries to put on her shoes.

She knows how to feed her babydolls a bottle and put them in their little beds. (And she also likes to throw them down her slide).

She can put a basketball in the hoop on her slide. (Daddy taught her this).

She loves necklaces, earrings and hair bows. (Her hair is just barely coming in. Today I noticed she has just enough to hold a hairbow clip. Hooray!)

She mimics things that Alex and I do such as blinking, putting ‘earrings’ on, and brushing teeth. She also will scrub her face with a washcloth or wipe.

Favorite foods lately include veggie burger patties, french toast, pasta, cheese, corn and blackberries. She is willing different things we give her including Hoisin chicken, as well as spinach and dill scrambled eggs. She recently devoured a baby back rib (on the bone) when we went out for BBQ.

She sleeps from 7 pm until 8 am most days. Naptime is usually around noon for about 2.5 hours.

We are having lots of fun with Ruby at this age (with the exception of the temper tantrums!)

I love when Alex comes upstairs to play with Ruby. He gets down on the floor with her and acts so goofy. She always giggles as he wrestles with her or plays with her toys in a new way.

I've been trying to consistently discipline Ruby when it comes to climbing and standing on the furniture. I always say 'sit down' while trying to keep a serious face. It is so difficult when she is just playing and being cute!

Anyways, here's Ruby talking back to her mama. It really sounds like she is saying 'sit down!'

Friday night BBQ

We enjoyed some good BBQ with the Macnabs and Robersons. We also go to meet their friends, the Boysons who were visiting from Australia.

For Ruby, the highlight was eating a BBQ pork rib. She ate ALL the meat, all the way to the bone.





Ahhhh, BBQ. This is the food we missed when we were living in London.




Ruby and her cousin made a stage out of the outdoor fireplace area, putting on a show.
